Makeup events are truly like buses, wait all year for one then a million come at once! Whether you are a total makeup junkie like myself or just on the peruse for a few pampering treats then this weeks beauty line up in Newcastle at both the Metrocentre and Fenwick is to be taken true advantage of!
Yesterday evening I attended the first makeup masterclass held by the House of Fraser MAC team in the Metro Centre. Arriving to a dozen chairs lined up in classroom formation, each adorned with a MAC gift box full of facial treats and samples for each student to take away was the cutest arrival gesture. The focus of the complimentary session was to promote the new seasons range of limited edition eye palettes. This gorgeously vibrant collection, ideal for the festival season and to bring out the inner mermaid/unicorn in each of us, are a wonder to the creative eye but perhaps slightly too daunting to the mainstream customer? Therefore this masterclass was perfect in showing us; the safe brown smoky eyed dwellers, how to make use of even the most lively of shades in an everyday and more wearable format. During the session, the assistant manager Jordan performed a detailed demonstration for the group involving a cut crease of tropical sunset pink, purple and orange hues, pushing aside any visions of coco the clown and proving that colour isn’t something to be afraid of!
The second half of the event was open to requests from the floor on what look to demo, but despite this being the standard dark smoky eye I even found myself picking up a few tips and tricks on product placement and ways to use the tools. The class lasted an hour, and without any pressure or obligation to purchase there was then time at the end to have a browse, ask any questions and even a quick colour match to receive a generous foundation sample.
The event was fun, informal and informative. It catered perfectly to all levels of makeup novices all the way to pros and gave me a lovely little buzz of makeup inspiration, on a Tuesday night which would have otherwise been spent horizontal in front of the TV catching up with hours of American trash TV.
With high hopes that this will become a regular occurrence, follow the counter’s Instagram page for details on when the next event will be @myartistcommunityhofmetro. I’ll be there; glasses on, notebook out, indulging in full on geek mode…love it.
